Material Notes:
Metal replacement is one of the fastest growing areas for conductive plastics. Plastics, with their lighter weight, good processability and optimal combination of mechanical properties have challenged metals in many applications.Case Schurter:Swiss company Schurter is a producer of electronic components such as push-buttons, fuses, keypads and connectors. Schurter was facing severe problems with a push button of the electrical switch. The margins had tightened due to heavy competition and the old metallic push button with labour-intensive construction was not profitable anymore. Fortunately a Schurter designer came across with Premix’s highly conductive PRESEAL® elastomer. The construction of push button was re-designed and metallic insert was replaced with PRESEAL®. Thanks to significant savings in production costs the competitiveness of electrical switch was regained.Advantages in Design and Processing:Processing by normal thermoplastic processing methods; injection molding and extrusion.Easy processability enables product designs with complex shapes and sizes.Mass-production friendly; fast cycle times, no need for vulcanisation nor primers.Recyclable and RoHS compliant.Electrical and Mechanical Properties:Volume resistivity from 0.003 to 0.03OcmAttenuation from 90 to 100dBLow compression setLow hardness in highly filled compoundLow melt viscosityInformation from Premix OY
